Chris
A week before meeting Coach Bishop, I was in the ICU for DKA. My blood sugar had risen to 820. For anyone that is familiar with diabetes, a blood sugar that high can pretty much be a death sentence. I couldn’t walk, eat, or even keep water down while my blood sugar was elevated. After 2 days of being in the ICU, I made a decision that I was going to join a martial arts club as soon as I was discharged. I’ve always been a fan of the Rocky movies, Tony Jaa, Jet Li, and professional boxers. I was able to wean myself off the short acting insulin within the first week of working out at Bishop’s Training and Fitness. By week 2, I was off the long acting insulin as well. Training a Bishop’s Training and Fitness not only gives me the personal satisfaction of learning a new skill set; it also gives me the Confidence to accomplish other goals I set for myself. The camaraderie is a major bonus.

I’ve been going to Bishops for around 4 years now and I would have to say my experience there has been wonderful from both a personal and fitness level. The people there are great, extremely friendly and very welcoming. And from a fitness perspective, I am in the best shape that I’ve been in since I was a teenager. By learning to Box, I’ve lost weight and increased my endurance levels. This would not have been possible had it not been for the two of the trainers there, Eddie Bishop and James Perella. They are both gifted boxers and excellent trainers and have taught me much not only about the sport of boxing, but also about myself and with hard work I am capable of.
I will always say one of the best decisions I have ever made was to walk through the doors and attending a Boxing class at Bishops Training and Fitness.

In a word, when asked to describe my experience at Bishops I would say that on a personal level, I ‘ve been able to compete and win at world and national championship level. That never would have happened without my experience with Eddie Bishop and Jason Loud and many others at Bishop’s. I have seen all ages, shapes, sizes, and genders from other competitors my age down through tiny tots. The women who compete and/or get involved at Bishop’s are extremely impressive, some skilled at very high levels but all of them always willing to work with the less skilled to help them improve their abilities.
